The ask

Introduce The Drive-In to the world.

One hero film for YouTube, plus a set of short cutdowns for socials, made as 2D animation. The Drive-In's style should feel retro, feel-good, warm, exciting, chilled.

You know those throwback movies we love to love?

  • Dazed and Confused
  • Ferris Bueller's Day Off
  • The Perfect Wave
  • Stand By Me
  • and so many more

Those are the feelings The Drive-In should inspire.

The spirit of the campaign

The Drive-In is the one place where the film belongs to the person who made it, and the one place where watching feels like a good night out.

RecDek's own tag, Tell your friends, is a natural thread.

Yours to tell

How the story is told is up to you. This brief gives the vibe, the references and the facts. The story, the characters, the colours in play and the shape of the film are yours.

What The Drive-In is

A pay-per-view streaming home for independent film, run by RecDek House.

The Drive-In is a pay-per-view streaming home for independent film, run by RecDek House. Filmmakers keep their IP and set their own price, and viewers pay per film.

It opens with a founding cohort of indie filmmakers, and lives inside the RecDek app and at recdekhouse.com.

For filmmakers

  • Filmmakers keep their IP and set their own price.
  • They keep receipts from first sale and see real-time audience metrics.
  • They can switch territories off instantly if a distribution deal lands elsewhere, so unsold territories keep earning.
  • Films stream directly from the filmmaker's own library: nothing is handed over, re-uploaded or locked away.
  • Filmmakers keep the majority of revenue, and the audience relationship stays with them.
  • Filmmakers can distribute their own work using the RecDek app.

For viewers

A curated door into films that do not sit on the big platforms, chosen by a community that has spent years recommending them, paid for per film, with the money going to the people who made it.

People, not algorithms.

RecDek's promise.

Have a look

Double feature

Two audiences, one world.

The campaign speaks to filmmakers and to film lovers. The ads go to the industry first, to get filmmakers excited about registering their films at RecDekHouse.com. Once The Drive-In is live, the audience ad follows.

Feature 1

Filmmakers and creators

Tone Confident, a bit rebellious, practical

Who
Indie writers, directors, producers, animators, short and feature makers, many with a finished film and no clear route to money.
What they feel now
Distribution deals take the rights, the receipts and the data. Unsold territories sit idle.
What we promise
You keep your film, your audience and your money.
Proof
Keep IP, price, receipts from first sale, live metrics, territories on and off.
Action
Submit your film at RecDekHouse.com.
Where they are
Festival circuits, film Twitter/X and LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube, Reddit filmmaking communities.

Feature 2

Film lovers

Tone Warm, playful, nostalgic

Who
People who love indie, world and festival cinema and are tired of scrolling past the same ten titles.
What they feel now
Streaming is endless choice with nothing to watch. The films they hear about at festivals never arrive.
What we promise
A good night in: hand-picked films you will not find anywhere else.
Proof
Chosen by a community, pay once per film, the maker gets paid.
Action
Come to the Drive-In: open the RecDek app, pick a film, press play.
Where they are
Instagram Reels, TikTok, YouTube, the RecDek newsletter and app.

The filmmaker message is the commercial engine, because every film brought in brings its own audience.

The viewer message is what makes the platform feel alive and exciting.

The vibe

A warm night out for people who love film.

This is the heart of the brief. It describes a feeling to capture, not a look to copy.

Sunny, easy, a little funky. Surf, skate, old-school movies, the kind of film that leaves you feeling good. Chilled and welcoming, never corporate, never loud for the sake of it.

Who RecDek House are

People-first and film-obsessed: a community that recommends what it loves, with festival-world taste and a dry British sense of humour. A friend telling you what to watch.

A members' club that anyone with something to say can join.

Sound and voice

Relaxed and human. Whatever music or voice fits the world is up to you, as long as it is original or properly licensed.

References to draw on

Treat these as inspiration, not rules. Mix, borrow the feeling, ignore any that do not help.

  • Classic 80s minimalism: simple shapes, bold flat colour, space to breathe
  • 2D animation with a hand-made feel
  • Less is more: one clear idea, not a pile of features
  • Retro and nostalgic, in a sunny way rather than a sad one
  • Feel-good films that make you want to tell someone
  • Drive-in nights, surf and skate culture, old-school movie posters
  • The current Drive-In colour scheme and assets as the visual anchor

Ideas to spark your creativity

Eighteen ways in. You only need one.

These are starting points, not a checklist. Take one, combine a few, or bring something better. One clear idea told well beats five told thinly.

  1. 01Tell your friends

RecDek's own tag. Something like “Tell your friends, there's a new drive-in around town.” Word of mouth as the whole idea, for viewers and for filmmakers.

  2. 02Pull up

An invitation. Pull up a seat, pull up your film.

  3. 03Keep it

Filmmakers keep their film, their audience and their money.

  4. 04The whole map

Territories you have not sold are still yours, and can be switched on or off.

  5. 05Found, not fed

Films chosen by people, not by a feed.

  6. 06Good vibes

The feeling of a great night out, with no explainer needed.

  7. 07Tune in

The car radio, the dial, the crackle before the film starts. Tune in to something different.

  8. 08Seen it first

The pride of finding a film nobody else has heard of, and being the one who tells everyone.

  9. 09Double feature

One story from both sides of the screen, the maker and the person watching.

  10. 10Headlights on

Cars arriving and beams lighting up the screen, films switching on one by one.

  11. 11Honk if you love it

Applause, drive-in style. The audience reaction as the whole ad.

  12. 12Intermission

A pause from the endless scroll. A snack-bar break for your thumbs.

  13. 13Your name in lights

The filmmaker's name on the big screen. The credits are theirs.

  14. 14Receipts

A playful take on keeping the receipts: a ticket stub or a till roll that goes straight to the person who made the film.

  15. 15Same sky, every town

Films from everywhere under one big screen, with the map lighting up as they land.

  16. 16Endless summer

Golden hour that never ends, the feeling of the first night of a long holiday.

  17. 17Lost reel

A hidden gem found at the back of the lot, the film that fell through the cracks of the big platforms and gets its night.

  18. 18Bring a carload

The more the merrier. Everybody brings a friend, and the friend brings a friend.

What RecDek House need

A hero for YouTube, and cutdowns for socials.

Made for the two audiences above. Length, format, structure and the number of cutdowns are yours to propose.

The hero

Somewhere around one minute, for YouTube. A rough guide only. Make it horizontal (16:9): that is the shape that can win the prize.

The cutdowns

From a few seconds up to 15 seconds, in the shapes that suit each platform. Mobile first, and they should work with the sound off.

Must appear
The Drive-In name and logo, and the launch date: 1st November.
Next step for filmmakers
Submit your film at RecDekHouse.com.
Next step for viewers
Come and watch: open the RecDek app, pick a film, press play.
Short on time?
RecDek's own advice: make a short filmmaker cutdown and a short viewer cutdown first, and follow with the hero.

Messaging

Say it in your own words, as long as it is true. These lines are for inspiration only:

  • Tell your friends, there's a new drive-in around town.
  • Pull up.
  • Your film, your price, your receipts.
  • Films you will not find anywhere else.

Claims you can make

Stick to these. If you are unsure about a claim or a number, ask us rather than guess.

  • Filmmakers keep their IP
  • They set their own price
  • They keep receipts from first sale
  • They see real-time audience metrics
  • They can remove territories instantly
  • Films stream from their own library
  • Filmmakers keep the majority of revenue

Notes for artists and creators

  • We love simplistic and stylish. Something that breathes cool, effortlessly.
  • Take the vibe and references as a starting point and make it yours.
  • Keep the look consistent across the hero and every cutdown.
  • Originals only: no existing film posters, famous characters, brand mascots, real people's likenesses or recognisable music.
  • Add all text, logos, dates and URLs in post using the supplied brand files, because generated text often garbles.
  • Design for mobile first for cutdowns, with a strong opening and clear captions.
  • Check each platform's rules on labelling AI-generated content.
  • If unsure about a claim or a number, ask rather than guess.

Brand files

The neon five, and a lot of black.

The colours come from the Drive-In sign, which runs hot pink at the top down to cyan at the bottom. The palette is the anchor, and everything else is yours to play with.

  • Signal Pink#FD4768The headline colour. The top of the Drive-In sign.
  • Hot Magenta#FC3596Where the sign turns. The hottest accents and highlights.
  • Orchid#BB53D0The soft purple mid-point between pink and blue.
  • Electric Blue#4293FDThe cool half of the gradient.
  • Neon Cyan#01C1FEThe bottom of the sign. Bright, clean, reads well on black.

The sign reads pink, magenta, orchid, blue, cyan. Keep that order. Run it top to bottom in lettering, or sideways as a divider line.

  • Night#000000The logo's own background. Pure black, so the neon glows.
  • Ink#0B0712A softer violet-black for large backgrounds. A suggestion.
  • Dusk#1A1030Panels and cards on Ink. A suggestion.
  • Paper#F8F8F8Small text on black, and the odd quiet line.
The Drive-In at RecDek House logo
The Drive-In Supplied on black. It carries its own glow, so keep it on black or another very dark background and leave clear space around it.
RecDek House logo
RecDek House The black lettering needs a light or bright background. It works on white and on Neon Cyan. Avoid pink, where the coral shadow disappears.

Lean towards

  • Lots of black, with the neon used sparingly so it feels lit.
  • One or two core colours per frame, with the gradient saved for the big moments.
  • Flat colour and clean shapes, in the spirit of classic 80s minimalism.
  • Paper white for small text and the odd quiet line.

Be careful with

  • Pink text on cyan, or the reverse. They vibrate and are hard to read.
  • Stretching, recolouring or redrawing either logo.
  • Putting the black RecDek House lettering on a dark background.
  • Muddy mixes: stay with the five neon colours rather than blending new ones.
